Registration will open at 7.00am on the day. The first riders will depart at 8.30am.
What are the distances?
The 2014 Rattler will consist of three routes of 102, 82 and 47 miles. The 102 mile epic route offers the more experienced sportive rider a fantastic challenge, and completely showcases the fantastic New Forest National Park. Be warned though - the last 20 miles of the epic route are the hilliest!
What can I expect from the routes?
The New Forest offers some great cycling and some spectacular scenery. There are sections with long open straights that are truly exhilarating, some punchy hills, and also some longer gradual climbs. The maximum gradient is at Blissford hill near the end of each route where you will encounter a 25% climb. This is a short sharp climb that looks like a wall as you approach it.
The routes have been designed to encounter as little traffic as possible, and there are minimal miles on bigger roads. In places the routes narrow to single lanes and extra care will need to be taken on these sections. Riders will also need to be extremely careful when passing any of the livestock that reside in this wonderful part of the country. Horses in particular tend to get easily spooked by passing cyclists, so please take care while enjoying what has become a favourite fixture in many people's cycling calendar.
£25 - 47 and 82 mile routes (earlybird rate of £21 available until 21st December)
£27 - 102 mile epic route (earlybird rate of £23 available until 21st December)
What do I get for my money?
- Porridge, tea and coffee before setting out
- Feed stations en route. Each station will be stocked with energy powder, bananas, flapjacks and water
- A burger or hot dog from the Rattler BBQ (additional items are available), plus tea, coffee and hot drinks
- Free on-site car parking
- If you are defeated by the Rattler you won’t be left stranded. We will provide a SAG wagon on the day to pick up riders that do not complete the course
- Electronic timing
- Official ‘Rattler’ certificate of completion
- An exciting and exhilarating day in the saddle
We are very fortunate to have the excellent sportive photographer, George Burgess, available to take shots of each rider en route. Photos will be available to purchase soon after the event and will be displayed on the Rattler website. To see examples of George's photography please visit his website.
I'm travelling from far away and need accommodation
If you are travelling from far away to take part in the Rattler then you will probably be looking for accommodation. There are some lovely hotels and B&B's in the area and we recommend that you visit either the New Forest Tourism or i-know Hampshire for further information.
We also offer the option for riders and family members to camp at the event HQ at a rate of £20 per pitch (pitches can accommodate 4 people). Places are limited so if you are interested then please book soon. Full details of how to book are available when you register for the event.
Bring the family along too!
Moyles Court School is based in a very picturesque part of the New Forest National Park, so if riders would like to bring family and friends along then we whole heartedly encourage this. There are some excellent walks on the doorstep of the school and lots of places to set up a picnic etc. There will be a BBQ available throughout the day and New Forest Ice Cream will also be on sale.
